Rural Voices: What We Heard Across North Carolina
During July 2026, the North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) Rural Caucus hosted three virtual listening sessions with Democratic volunteers, candidates, community leaders, and rural residents from across North Carolina. Our goal was simple: listen.
This report captures the concerns, priorities, and ideas shared by participants—from affordability and healthcare to education, infrastructure, economic development, and community engagement. It also highlights practical strategies for strengthening Democratic outreach in rural communities.
These conversations are only the beginning. The Rural Caucus is committed to continuing to listen, learn, and ensure that rural voices help shape the future of our party and our state.
The NCDP Rural Caucus brings together Democrats, progressives, and community allies from rural counties and small-towns to elect Democrats who care about rural NC. We want to ensure rural voices are heard within our party, in local and state offices, and in Washington, DC.
